Whats The Odds Of A Full Recovery For My Father Who Has Pneumonia?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

My father got the swine flu which caused pneumonia, bacterial i believe as it took nearly a week for the full effects to take place. we rushed him to emergency as he was short of breath. He was given tammiflu ASAP but after a night of the mask he was still short of breath so they decided to put him to sleep and use the oral ventilator (ICU), i believe he had septis for a short while and he is also on medication for low blood pressure, which may be caused do to all the meds he is on. 4 days later and he is stable, they are slowly weaning him off the oxygen and he seems to be coping ok with it (hes on 40 now whatever that means he was on 50 yesterday he started on 100). His blood count is increasing too. he is having a problem going number 2’s so they have given him meds for that ATM.
Please note he is a borderline type 2 diabetic and has been a heavy smoker all his lifes (62yrs old now). the docs said they are only planning to keep him under for a few more days before waking him is that a good sign? The also said hes moving in the right direction
im extremely worried but im ready for the worse im just scared because when u ask the doctors if hes gonna be ok they cant answer but i dont think they are allowed to say that anyway.
Your honest feedback is appreciated….thanks
