Hiv/aids In The Healthcare/hosptial Setting?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I worked with two patients who had AIDS about two months ago (I’m a nurse extern, currently in nursing school) and no one told me until the end of my shift. I did take each individual’s blood (fingerstick for diabetes/blood glucose) and I wore gloves. One was on airborne precautions because of pneumonia so I wore a mask there. I’m just worried that like, I stepped in a place where one had blood previously and got it on my shoe, then touched my shoe and then touched my eye or nose or something. I know the chances are slim, but I feel very angry that I was not told even though I know legally they do not have to tell me. I really feel that if I’m going to be working with someone’s blood/using bedpans (vaginal secretions), etc. I should be told so I can be extra cautious. Should I get tested? I’ve not had any flu-like symptoms, but I’m still worried about it and have replayed that shift in my mind, trying to make sure I did use all standard precautions. Just wanting opinions. TY.

8 Month Old Daughter With Bronchiolitis? Any Advice?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

about a week ago my daughter had been experiencing flu like symptoms, well when she began wheezing i made her an appointment to the ped, shortly after he saw her, he had us take her to the ER room at a local hospital, he told us it was RSV. Well, once at the ER room, they checked her out, cleared her congestion with some machine that went in her nose. then they gave her breathing treatment at the hospital, sent us home with the same ‘treatment’, a mask, and inhaler to use for a few days, (in a couple of days i should have a follow up with the ped to make sure everything is okay and her breathing is okay). HOwever! since i got home, bronchiolitis, i discovered is asthma, isnt it? or does it later become asthma? does Bronchiolitis ever go away? Where does it come from? and aside the breathing treatments that were given to her, is there anything else i can do to help her? She was tossing and turning last night, and i have a hard time using the syringe to clean out her nose, although i know
