We have non-refundable hotel and airline tickets, but with the swine flu (or h1n1 whatever it’s called now) should we just scrap it? We really, really want to go and think we could be safe by wearing a mask, washing hands, alcohol wipes, etc. Would we be idiots to go, or is this an acceptable risk?

Due to the swine flu, most hotel / airline actually offer to defer the trip to a later dates without any charges. Even if it is in the non-refundable category.
Phone & email them, treathen to report them to the authority if they still refuse to defer your dates at no extra charges.
You have every rights to do the changes due to the swine flue outbreak.
The WHO has said that they think the maximum number of people swine flu would kill if it went pandemic would be 7.5 million – and that it could be as low as 2 million. 7.5 million is about 0.01% of the world population. Those who are at risk of dying are mostly either old or very young, have compromised immunities and are poor (little or no health-care). Furthermore, the cautious steps governments are taking also improve your safety.
Personally, I would go ahead. But I guess you have to consider how you would feel if someone you are traveling with DID actually get sick. One more thing: don’t bring a child, no matter what age. 0.01% is still too high a risk when its your flesh and blood.
I don’t think the swine flu is something that should cower everyone in their basements for months when it only lasts a week or so. Plus, the symptoms I have heard of haven’t been all that bad. You just have to decide if it is worth going there having to go through all the trouble of wearing masks, and being extra careful. Don’t blame me if you get it though
you’re probably going to worry about it the whole time, which means you won’t have the most fun,
and if you do get infected, you could start a new cluster of the virus in your community.
cancun sounds pretty safe for now though..
i wouldn’t,
but it’s your decision..
I wouldnt..I mean I would not have any fun or a change to enjoy every part of it..maybe you should read some news to see if its safe, I dont think airplanes are going to mexico in most countries either..erm..I wouldnt go I would call the hotel to see if I could get my money back…but since u say its not refundable then Its your decision really..
If you have young children do not go. Personally after everything I’ve heard I wouldn’t go.
